Halfway through spring, when everything is blooming again, some things ache, too.
The bleeding hearts always return right around the anniversary of my grandmother’s death.
I remember stepping into her backyard after the funeral, not knowing what I needed, just needing something, and there they were.
Soft, familiar, and somehow exactly right. I laughed.
A poetic uplift in a devastatingly sad time.
This morning I wandered out sleepy-headed, checking in on my bees, the wild little spirits, and whatever decided to bloom overnight.
Turns out… it was magic.
The soft, quiet kind you almost miss if you’re rushing.

A single breath in a blooming lily of the valley…
and the body softens, the lungs open, the nervous system exhales.
This isn’t just a scent, if you ever smelled lily of the valley, it’s a full-body reset, gently restoring calm from the inside out.
The layered benefits (sensory + physiological + emotional) feel rich and restorative.
A simple ritual with multiple compelling payoffs.
What looks like a simple moment—breathing in a flower—
is actually nourishing the sensory-sensual benefits of those cute little odorant molecules…but also the physiological practice of breathing deep into the lower lungs, and improves vagal tone.
It’s stress relief!
Blessings from the Earth are everywhere when you make yourself available to them.
I let myself swoon a bit, because of the euphoric divine frequency that activates through scent.
“Smell is the potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived. The odors of fruits waft me to to my southern home, to my childhood frolics in the peach orchard. Other odors, instantaneous and fleeting, cause my heart to dilate joyously or contract with remembered grief. Even as I think of smells, my nose is full of scents that start to awake sweet memories of summers gone and ripening fields far away.”
Helen Keller
Each year I pluck one tiny frond of new flowers and and tuck it behind my ear.. crowned myself the May Queen (or King). You could do it too.
Touch grass. Go outside.

Do it now!
